Ultra Low Pressure Reverse Osmosis Membranes for Brackish Water Under 2000 ppm TDS

The ULP series reverse osmosis membrane elements are designed for desalination of water sources with a salinity of around 2000 ppm or lower, such as surface water, groundwater, tap water, and municipal water.
They are mainly applied in various fields including purified water production, boiler feed water, food processing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
These membranes can achieve the same high water flux and high salt rejection as conventional low-pressure membranes under ultra-low operating pressure conditions.
The operating pressure is approximately two-thirds that of standard low-pressure composite membranes, while the salt rejection rate can reach up to 99.5%, effectively reducing the investment cost of pumps, pipelines, and pressure vessels, as well as the overall operating cost of the reverse osmosis system — thereby improving economic efficiency.

Product Advantages: The Ultra Low Pressure Reverse Osmosis Membranes for Brackish Water feature high water flux and excellent salt rejection, offering low operating costs and outstanding economic efficiency.

Operating Conditions Specifications:

  • The maximum reverse osmosis filter membrane operating pressure is 41 bar (600 psi), while the chemical cleaning pH range extends from 1 to 13.
  • The maximum operating temperature is 45°C (113°F), and the maximum feed water SDI (SDI15) is 5.0.
  • The maximum pressure drop per membrane element is 1.0 bar (15 psi), and the allowable free chlorine content is less than 0.1 ppm.
  • The continuous operating pH range is from 2 to 11, ensuring stable performance under normal conditions.

Notes:

The flow rate of an individual membrane element may vary, but the variation will not exceed ±15%.
Similarly, the effective membrane area may fluctuate, yet the variation is limited to within ±4%.
Furthermore, the stable salt rejection rate is generally determined after 24–48 hours of continuous operation, depending on the feed water quality and operating conditions.

APPLICATION

Drinking Water

Utral low pressure reverse osmosis membranes  achieve a reduction of over 90% in heavy metal content, a residual chlorine removal rate of approximately 95%, and a near 100% removal rate of microorganisms, significantly improving the quality of drinking water. In addition, the low energy consumption of low-pressure reverse osmosis membrane ro reduces operating costs, while also making the equipment quieter and more compact, making it better suited for home use and providing a more convenient and cost-effective solution for drinking water purification.

Farm irrigation application
Farm Irrigation

In modern agriculture, ultra low-pressure membrane reverse osmosis are used to treat groundwater, surface water, or reclaimed water to produce water suitable for crop irrigation. The high water flux provided by reverse osmosis membrane water filter at relatively low energy consumption can meet the irrigation needs of large-scale farmland, while reducing the potential impact of salts and harmful substances on soil and crops, thereby promoting sustainable agricultural development. For example, in saline-alkaline areas or regions with poor water quality, treating irrigation water with ultra low-pressure reverse osmosis membranes can reduce the salt content to levels suitable for crop growth.

Food & Beverage Production

In food processing and beverage production, ultra-low pressure reverse osmosis membrane is used to produce purified or ultrapure water, which serves as process water or cleaning water. Their energy-saving characteristics help companies reduce operational costs, while the industrial reverse osmosis membrane stable water quality ensures product consistency and taste. For example, in beverage production, using water treated with low-pressure RO membranes as a raw material can guarantee consistent flavor and stable quality, while also reducing the rate of product defects caused by water quality issues.

CHINA SUPPLIERS STATUS

Ultra low pressure reverse osmosis membranes Chinese supplier status

Since 1996, the application of ultra-low pressure (ULP) reverse osmosis membranes have gradually increased, particularly in small-scale systems that primarily use 4-inch membranes, where their advantages are more pronounced. These membranes not only save electricity but also reduce the pressure rating requirements for associated mechanical components, thereby lowering material costs. For example, a leading domestic reverse osmosis membrane supplier reported that in the past two years, up to 80% of the 4-inch membranes sold were ultra-low pressure membranes. At the same time, there is also strong demand for ULP membranes in large-scale systems, with the largest domestic ULP membrane installation currently achieving a water production capacity of 650 tons per hour.

Currently, widely used low-pressure and ultra-low pressure composite membranes are mainly made of aromatic polyamide, with negatively charged membrane surfaces.
